You’ve probably heard about the PFAS chemicals that were found in the groundwater by the Jackson airport. Well, the same types of chemicals are used to line some molded fiber food service containers to provide water and oil resistance. Some manufacturers even label these products as “Compostable”. These chemicals do not break down in the composting process and we consider them toxic, regardless of the FDA approvals and acceptance by food service manufacturers. At this point please do not include any molded fiber products with your food scraps for composting.
